Summer Activities In Bansko

The Pirin national park is an outstanding place of true beauty which represents a sea of rippling mountain ridges, where rugged peaks rise up from a cloak of ancient alpine coniferous forests. The Pirin has numerous glacial lakes Each peak is easily accessible. It is the second highest range in Bulgaria, which boasts 40 peaks over 2500 metres and 3 peaks which top 2900 metres. You can also go and see one of the oldest trees in Bulgaria; the Baikushev's Pine .The tree is more than 1,300 years old.

The Pirin Mountains offer some of the best downhill and cross country mountain biking Europe has to offer! There are over 300km of marked trails of varying difficulty and length. We can supply maps for you to follow. The gondola will now be open for the summer which will take you straight up to 2100m. You can rent a quality DRAG mountain bike for the day and head for the hills for 20Leva a day. We also have guides ready to take you to the top and beyond!

The Pirin has a rich and varied flora and fauna. More than 1,300 plant species have been found up to this moment, which is roughly 1/3 all plant species to be found in the country; 320 lichen species; several hundred algae species. There are 18 endemic plant species which include Pirin Poppy, Pirin Meadowsweet, Pirin Thyme, Avid Mullein and others. Many plants are extremely rare and under protection such as the beautiful Edelweiss.

Highly recommended is the riding centre in Razlog valley. it is only a 5 minute journey from Bansko in our Chalet Bus. Professional Qualified instructors can take you for a 1 hour to 4 hour ride whether you're experienced or not. You can also enjoy lunch or just a drink at the stables after your ride.

There are a number of rock climbing sites in and around Bansko with the most impressive being the North wall of Vihren peak. Here alone you will find 7 or 8 routes available with a length of up to 13 ropes. The peaks can be climbed at any time during the year but the best months are from June to September and on clear days.
